Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) is a psychologist and a single mother raising her daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) and her young son. However, Tess and Anna have always had a bad relationship, as they can't stand each other’s ways. One day, they argue again about Anna's band and Tess's remarriage, claiming that if it were the other person, things would turn out well. Unexpectedly, after reading a strange note from an old woman, they swap bodies. In their panic, they must accept the reality and work together to manage each other's lives, and through this experience, mother and daughter come to understand each other's lives and feelings. However, with Tess's wedding approaching, they still can’t switch back…
