Yuko, who dreams of entering an art school, utilizes her summer vacation to take a short painting course out of town. She stays at the home of her mother Chise's old friend, Haruko Aoba, and meets Haruko's son Riku, her friend Akiko, and Akiko's boyfriend Sorato. Although the family members are a bit unconventional, the delicious meals at the Aoba family table make them feel like one big family. Chise is a talented and famous TV chef, and Yuko is eager to prove she is special too, in order to escape her mother’s shadow. She quickly makes new friends at art school and encounters a boy she likes. Both she and Riku are fans of the same indie band and even join his amateur music group. While exploring her self-worth and future, Yuko learns that Haruko and her mother have been out of touch for 20 years due to long-standing feelings. Influenced by Yuko, Haruko gathers the courage to visit her old friend Chise and rekindle their friendship... The emerging director, Masashi Matsumoto, weaves a fresh summer coming-of-age story with food, music, friendship, and love. Starring Naomi Nishida, it contrasts the relationships across generations to reveal the subtle emotions common in human interactions, much like a meticulously prepared and delicious meal that allows one to savor the flavors of life.
