"Youthful Splendor" is a biographical film that tells the story of the famous Italian poet and philosopher Giacomo Leopardi, played by Cannes Best Actor winner and Italian star Elio Germano. Leopardi was born in 1798 in a small town and is considered one of Italy's greatest poets, second only to Dante. Despite his humble beginnings, even his early works posed crucial questions about his era, reflecting the influence of Enlightenment and foreshadowing Nietzsche's nihilism in many aspects. Leopardi was a child prodigy, mastering multiple ancient and modern languages at an early age, and wrote his "Poems" by the age of 20, but he passed away at the young age of 38 due to illness. Schopenhauer referred to Leopardi as his "spiritual brother," and Italians regard him as one of the greatest sages, with his thought praised as "surpassing every European literary figure from Goethe to Valéry." However, despite numerous accolades, this 19th-century poet and philosopher remains relatively unknown in the mainstream English-speaking world. The film has received decent reviews from the media. The Hollywood Reporter stated: "As the film progresses, the story becomes increasingly captivating. Notably, the cinematography is absolutely top-notch." The UK's The Guardian commented: "While it may not be the most radical film at this year's Venice, it is undoubtedly deserving of attention."
