In a certain regiment, the fourth company was rated as an excellent company for two consecutive years by the higher authorities. One day, a new soldier named Qu Xiaolong was transferred from the recruit company. He feared hardship and exhaustion, was vain, and his military skills were lacking. Which squad should he be assigned to? The company commander thought that the second squad leader, Jin Dahong, had a serious "maintain excellence" mentality and was constantly worried about the company losing its red flag, holding incorrect views about honor, and was resistant to Qu Xiaolong's arrival. The fifth squad leader, Niu Fushan, had a hot-headed temperament and a simple, blunt approach to work. Thus, the company commander decided to assign Qu Xiaolong to the fifth squad of the second platoon, intending to both guide Xiaolong and use this opportunity to conduct ideological education for Jin Dahong and Niu Fushan. During an emergency assembly, Xiaolong lagged behind, affecting the fourth company's final arrival. As a result, the "moving red flag" was taken away by other companies. On the way back, the company commander, Lin Zhiyong, added a mountain climbing exercise, and Xiaolong was full of complaints. After returning to the camp, he posted a big-character poster on the company commander's door, accusing him of being a "warlord remnant, simple and brutal." Niu Fushan, upon seeing this, was so angry that he tore it down. The company commander felt that tearing down big-character posters was inappropriate and demanded that Niu Fushan reflect on it. Although Jin Dahong disagreed with the tearing down of the poster, he also had objections to the company commander's decision to increase the exercises. Just as one issue settled, another arose. On a Sunday, Niu Fushan went to help Qu Xiaolong, but they couldn't find common ground, leading to another argument, and Niu crushed Xiaolong's flute. The company commander bought a new flute and asked Niu Fushan to apologize to Xiaolong. To promote unity between Xiaolong and Niu Fushan and to work on their ideological education, the company commander gathered Xiaolong and Niu Fushan to form a small band, but they failed to harmonize and left in discord. What was the problem? Qu Xiaolong came from a poor background, so why did he fear hardship, act carefree, and have a low spirit? To understand the situation, the company commander moved into the fifth squad's dorm. One day, he accidentally saw that Qu Xiaolong had a food bag by his pillow, with the words "Determine to Revolutionize to the End" written on it. This was exactly the company commander's food bag, so how did it end up in Xiaolong's hands? It turned out that more than a decade ago, during the liberation of Guangzhou, a group of bandits committed atrocities at Xiaolong's home, and one of them raised a bayonet to stab Xiaolong. At that moment, a gunshot rang out, and the bandit fell. Then, Lin Zhiyong engaged in a fierce battle with the bandits. He killed several enemies but was severely injured himself. When Lin was taken away, he left the food bag for Xiaolong's destitute family. Later, when Xiaolong joined the army, his mother told him to keep the food bag close and never forget the Communist Party's kindness, urging him to determine to revolutionize to the end. At this moment, Company Commander Lin Zhiyong realized that Qu Xiaolong was the child he had saved back then. However, he did not tell Xiaolong about his rescue; instead, he inspired and educated Xiaolong through the blood and tears of history before liberation. Not long after, Xiaolong's sister, Xiaozhu, came to the company to perform with the art troupe. At the suggestion of the company instructor, to help Xiaolong and educate all the soldiers in the company, Xiaozhu composed a song based on the story of the food bag and sang it for the entire company. Upon hearing it, Xiaolong felt immense regret and realized he owed his life to the People's Liberation Army. From that point on, with the company commander's instruction and example, Xiaolong's awareness increased, and he took the initiative to write a big-character poster for self-criticism.
