Ye Wen (played by Tony Leung), a native of Foshan, Guangdong, grew up in a well-off family. He learned martial arts from Chen Hua Shun, the second-generation heir of Wing Chun, and his master's advice of "a belt and a breath" supported him through the chaos of war and dynastic changes. His wife, Zhang Yong Cheng (played by Song Hye Kyo), is sharp and capable; the couple complements each other perfectly. In 1936, the martial arts scene in Foshan is tumultuous. The Baguazhang master Gong Yu Tian (played by Wang Qing Xiang) is aging and promises to retire. Naturally, his position as the president of the Chinese Martial Artists Association attracts the attention and envy of martial arts experts. This includes Gong Yu Tian's only daughter, Gong Er (played by Zhang Ziyi), Bai Yuan Ma San (played by Zhang Jin), and the notorious Ding Lian Shan (played by Zhao Benshan), alongside Wing Chun's Ye Wen, all focusing their gaze on the righteous Gong Yu Tian. Is there a division in martial arts as there is in the country? Only those with virtue should take on such heavy responsibilities, yet the illusion of fame leads countless confused individuals into frenzy, squandering their lives. In a chaotic era, deep-seated romantic feelings are crushed under the cold wheels of fate...
