Ip Man (Donnie Yen) arrives in Hong Kong with his family, struggling to make ends meet. He opens a martial arts school to promote Wing Chun, but no one pays attention. One day, Huang Liang (Huang Xiaoming) visits, and after a sparring match, he willingly brings a group of brothers to learn under Ip Man. Due to some issues, Huang Liang gets into a fight with the Hung Gar school and ends up being captured. Ip Man comes to rescue him but encounters his former rival, Jin Shan Zhao (Fan Siu Wong). The two reconcile, only to be stopped by Hung Gar's master, Hung Zhen Nan (Sammo Hung), leading to everyone being arrested by the police (Eric Tsang). Hung Zhen Nan reminds Ip Man that to open a martial arts school in Hong Kong, he must accept challenges from major schools. Thus, Ip Man faces him in a duel, and the two are evenly matched. As Ip Man refuses to pay the membership fee, Hung Gar seeks revenge, resulting in the school being shut down. Behind the scenes, Hung Zhen Nan manages a Sino-British match for the British police but never receives payment, feeling deeply wronged. Boxing champion Tornado arrives in China and insults Chinese martial arts during the match, injuring a Chinese boxer. Hung Zhen Nan steps in, leading to bloodshed. For the honor of Chinese martial arts, Ip Man accepts Tornado's provocation and fights for the greater good of the nation...
