The guitarist El (Antonio Banderas) is the most feared gunslinger in the Mexican desert. He has destroyed one local drug lord and gangster after another, earning many enemies. After losing his beloved wife, a disheartened El wanders with his guitar and disappears from sight. Now, the drug lord Barillo (Willem Dafoe) is gradually establishing his drug empire and is even conspiring to assassinate the president to overthrow the Mexican government. CIA agent Sands (Johnny Depp) learns of Barillo's plot and seeks out El. The once iron-willed warrior El won't stand by idly; he finally reenters the world. However, things are not as simple as they appear, and a legend is unfolding in the Mexican desert.
