The death of his wife leaves Quoyle (Kevin Spacey) in despair; he can't imagine living a minute more without her. At the urging of his Aunt Agnis (Judi Dench), the disheartened Quoyle returns to his seaside hometown with his daughter Bunny (Alyssa Gainer). In that old, eerie house, Quoyle takes on a job as a journalist reporting on maritime news. Contrary to his expectations, the unfamiliar surroundings, gloomy old house, and treacherous landscape deepen his depression. However, as time passes, he surprisingly begins to develop feelings for everything he once despised. At the same time, the appearance of the beautiful woman Petal (Julianne Moore) awakens long-buried feelings of tenderness and love in Quoyle’s heart.
