A monster movie produced by Nikkatsu in 1967 during the kaiju boom. Based on an original concept by Akira Watanabe, it was scripted by Iwao Yamazaki, known for "Song of Wandering," and Ryuzo Nakanishi, known for "Kill or Be Killed," and directed by Haruyasu Noguchi, who directed "Japanese Yakuza Story: The Flower of a Yakuza." The film depicts the threat of a gigantic monster and the love between a parent and child, even incorporating romantic elements. Magazine reporter Hiroshi Kurosaki, along with photographer Ito Koan, embarks on an exploration of the Nankai Islands under the orders of President Funatsu. They are joined by Dr. Tonoaka, an assistant professor of biology. By chance, the three land on a volcanic island and discover a creepy cave. Inside, they find a giant egg, which the islanders claim belongs to Gappa. Gappa is a reptile over 70 meters tall, with a thick body covered in crocodile-like scales, four legs, and large wings extending from its forelimbs to its tail. Just as the egg hatches and a baby Gappa emerges, Kurosaki, excited by the unexpected find, decides to take it back to Japan, ignoring the islanders' fears of Gappa's wrath...
