The story takes place in the late 1960s. The world is tumultuous and rapidly changing, and Hollywood, as a barometer of entertainment, reflects this most strongly. Once a hot star of Westerns, Rick Dalton (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) finds his phone ringing less frequently for film offers, and he is greatly troubled along with his longtime stunt double, Cliff Booth (played by Brad Pitt), as their opportunities seem scarce. Cliff, with a strong personality, originally had prospects in the film industry thanks to Rick's recommendation, but his career dimmed after a violent incident involving Bruce Lee (played by Mike Moh). In search of a sliver of opportunity, Rick moves to a celebrity-filled neighborhood, where neighboring him is the famous director Roman Polanski and his beautiful wife, Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie).
