The story takes place in the 1970s. One evening, Bi Tao (played by Chi Peng), the daughter of Uncle Luo Er, drives a broken car towards Luo Family Village. Inside the car are the overthrown village committee secretary Gu Tiezheng (played by Wei Beiyuan) and Ge Yi (played by Midichi), who is of overseas Chinese descent. Ge Yi holds his son Chen Xiang, whose wife recently died at a re-education school. Although Bi Tao's whole family takes care of them, having an infant is still quite inconvenient. Helpless, Ge Yi writes a letter to his relatives asking for help to raise his son, but this action brings him prison trouble.
