Australian director Warwick Thornton, who won the Golden Camera at the Cannes Film Festival with his debut feature, writes and directs "New Boy," featuring Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who returns to the Australian film scene as a nun in wartime Australia in the 1940s. She takes in an Indigenous boy who is unaccustomed to sleeping in a bed, does not speak a civilized language, yet is full of spirit. This continues until she discovers the secret of the boy’s glowing palms. The stunning, desolate imagery combined with the evocative score created by rock poet Nick Cave and Warren Ellis translates the unknown and mysterious into a profound visual experience. The film also seems to question Christian civilization through its visuals: can faith only have one path?
