In the late Ming Dynasty, the emperor is incompetent, and Prince Qing colludes with others to plot a rebellion. The Guardian Spy, Luo Bing, obtains crucial evidence but is killed during a robbery and severely injured. He is saved by Mei Xiang and her son Mei Youling. Mei Xiang dies saving Luo Bing. Before dying, she tells Mei Youling that his biological father is the current emperor and urges him to complete the mission with Luo Bing. The two go to the capital to find Tan Qi, hoping she will present the evidence to the emperor. Unexpectedly, Tan Qi is controlled by Eunuch Li, and they team up with Pei Lin to kill the two. Luckily, they had prepared in advance, capturing Pei Lin in the woods and revealing her master's true identity as He Xun, a poison woman from the Western Regions. Accompanied by another Guardian Spy, they sneak into the palace at night to meet the emperor, but they are caught by He Xun. Pei Lin, who harbors deep hatred for He Xun, decides to help the two and discuss strategies to rescue the emperor together.
