11-year-old Jonas lives in Germany with his mother and younger brother. After a quarrel with his mother, Jonas makes up an excuse and embarks on a train trip to Slovakia to visit his grandfather. Initially looking forward to spending the summer with his grandfather Bernard, he discovers that life has changed for him since his retirement. For Jonas, finding a way to help his grandfather return to a normal life while also reconciling with his mother is a dual challenge. Like all children, Jonas unwittingly grows during this summer.
