The story takes place in 1950s Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where 18-year-old Eurydice and 20-year-old Guida are inseparable biological sisters living with their conservative parents. Despite their traditional family values, the sisters each harbor dreams: Eurydice wants to become a professional pianist, while Guida longs to find true love. After a dramatic turn of events, the sisters are forced to separate, and their dreams are put on hold due to life's challenges. Nevertheless, they never give up hope of finding each other.
