The story takes place on the eve of the end of the Communist regime in Poland in the late 1980s, with the protagonist being a middle-aged film censor named Janusz. However, one day everything changed... In a nearby cinema named "Freedom," a film called "Sunrise" is being screened. Suddenly, the characters on the screen begin to rebel, completely ignoring the pre-approved dialogue and performing according to their own ideas. This causes a stir, as the audience has never seen such a bizarre occurrence; a sentimental film turns into a comedy mocking political realities. But they quickly realize that the characters are expressing thoughts they have long repressed but dared not voice, leading people to cheer, and more and more individuals flock to the Freedom Cinema every day to watch this magical film. Janusz tries to control the chaotic situation, but after communicating with the characters on the screen, he realizes that these fictional beings also have thoughts. However, high-ranking officials sent by the government have taken over the matter, and a fellow film critic suddenly remembers that this resembles a plot from "The Purple Rose of Cairo," prompting everyone to watch Woody Allen's film in the hope of finding a solution, only to unexpectedly encounter even stranger events in the making.
