After Lao Zhu (Lang Xiong) was brought to the United States by his son Xiao Sheng (Wang Bo Zhao) from Beijing, he not only did not enjoy a comfortable life but also faced new troubles due to the language barrier with his daughter-in-law, writer Ma Sha (Deb Snyder), and significant differences in their lifestyles (Lao Zhu was not curious about Ma Sha’s world, while Ma Sha was curious about Lao Zhu's world but did not wish to understand it deeply; instead, she grew to deeply dislike it after her curiosity). The stubborn Lao Zhu felt disheartened (he even tasted the bitterness of being dependent on others in his son’s home!), and angrily ran away from home. A chance incident made the American media marvel at Lao Zhu's Tai Chi skills, and after seeing the TV news, Xiao Sheng and Ma Sha found Lao Zhu, but by then, Lao Zhu had realized that a miserable situation was still better than losing his dignity at an old age.
