Adam (played by Mark Ruffalo) is a sex addict, a condition that brings tremendous physical and psychological trauma, heavily misunderstood and controversial in society. Fortunately, the strong-willed Adam has not given up on himself; while actively cooperating with treatment, he also strictly controls his desires, having maintained a celibate life for a full five years now. Around Adam, there are many others who have faced similar struggles, and they refer to each other as "family," helping and supporting one another. One day, Adam encounters a girl named Phoebe (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), whose beauty and cheerfulness quickly capture his attention.
