In Brooklyn, New York, there is an Italian family that, on nights of the full moon, seems to be under a spell, engaging in inexplicable behaviors. Loretta Castorini (Cher) is the only daughter, young and beautiful, working as an accountant. After her husband dies in a car accident, she becomes a widow. One night, in a tavern, Loretta witnesses a dramatic breakup at the next table, seemingly triggered, she decides to marry 41-year-old bachelor Johnny. She has Johnny propose with a ring, and thus, in front of everyone, they get married. However, due to her mother's serious illness, Johnny leaves New York, asking her to invite her brother Ronnie (Nicolas Cage) to the wedding. When she visits the bakery to see Ronnie, he becomes unusually excited upon hearing about the wedding and presents his objections. She argues her case, but he does not listen at all. Later, she invites him over to their home, hoping to mend their relationship, but after a heated argument, their relationship undergoes a subtle change...
