Based on Wang Shuo's novel "Half is Flame, Half is Sea Water." In prison, inmate Zheng Tian turns his experiences into a screenplay, which is later adopted by a film studio. After his release, he is invited by the studio to play the male lead, A. He is eventually imprisoned, and Bai Yun is expelled from school for not reporting his actions. She attempts suicide with sleeping pills but is rescued and later goes to Buddha Island. Zheng Tian participated in an art troupe composed of prisoners, performing at a labor farm near Buddha Island, where he meets Bai Yun again under organized arrangements. He expresses regret for ruining her future, while Bai Yun, after enduring hardships, declares that she will dedicate her life to doing good.
