During the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, Hu Yidao and Miao Renfeng (played by Wan Ziliang), known as "Southern Saber and Northern Sword," meet for a duel. Both are highly skilled and chivalrous, and though they are rivals, they respect each other. In the midst of this, Mrs. Hu gives birth to a son, named Hu Fei. To guard against unforeseen circumstances, Hu Yidao entrusts his wife and child to Miao Renfeng. On the final day of competition, Hu Yidao is fatally injured by Miao's Rising Sun Sword and dies on the spot from poison. Hu's servant Ping A Si, realizing the situation is dire, takes the secret manual and escapes with Hu Fei, hiding in the deep mountains to evade a pursuit by Tian Guinong. Miao Renfeng, feeling guilty, buries the Rising Sun Sword and Half-Moon Sword in the grave of Hu Yidao and his wife, vowing to seal his swords for ten years. As time passes, Hu Fei grows into a handsome and skilled young hero (played by Huang Rihua) who, by chance, encounters Miao Guinong and Alan, who are being pursued by Miao Renfeng, igniting his desire for revenge for his father. He descends the mountain but encounters a great upheaval in the martial world... This film is adapted from Jin Yong's martial arts novel "The Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain."
