The story takes place in the early years of the Republic of China, a time when the north is engulfed in warlord conflicts, societal unrest, and people's lives are difficult. Against this backdrop, three young individuals, Wang Xu (played by Guo Zhui), Jin Zhengping (played by Luo Mang), and Yu Hansheng (played by Jiang Sheng), become refugees fleeing south. They arrive in a small town on the edge of the war, hoping to find a safe place. In this town, the wealthy local youth Chen Zuguang (played by Lu Feng) is the leader of the local militia, controlling everything in the town. By a stroke of luck, Wang Xu is pursued by Chen Zuguang’s men while trying to help a female refugee. In a critical moment, he receives assistance from a woman named Hong Ling (played by Chu Xiangyun), a beautiful and brave woman who deeply captivates Wang Xu and whose presence turns his fate around. As time goes by, Wang Xu, Jin Zhengping, and Yu Hansheng gradually integrate into the life of the town, engaging in both open and covert battles with Chen Zuguang and his men. Together with Hong Ling, they form a resistance force, striving to protect the ordinary citizens of the town against Chen Zuguang's oppression and exploitation.
