The richest man in Maicheng, Xue Zicheng, encountered a strange event at home. His second wife dreamt that rain from the sky turned into blood upon reaching the ground. Xue Zicheng, a skeptic, casually took a watering can and sprinkled it on the ground, only to discover the words "blood debts must be repaid in blood" appearing in blood on the ground... Under the guidance of a feng shui master, Xue Zicheng spent a fortune to acquire a holy object for warding off evil—Buddha's finger relic—and specifically built a temple at home to enshrine it. However, during his first worship of the Buddha tooth, Xue Zicheng suddenly died on the spot, bleeding from all seven orifices, leaving behind three beautiful wives in mourning. This caused quite a stir throughout Maicheng. After five years, Xue Zimu returned to his hometown but was met with the sudden death of his elder brother. Everyone in the family was evasive, hesitant to speak, including his first love, Lan Zhi, who later became his sister-in-law. It seemed to indicate that there was an unspeakable secret hidden within the deep mansion of the Xue family... Local police, corrupt and incompetent, concluded it was a natural death without thorough investigation. Xue Zimu deduced from clues that his brother was murdered and was determined to uncover the truth. After Xue Zicheng's death, the reactions of the three wives varied. The first wife cried heartbrokenly while holding her son; the second wife immediately threw a black medicine bottle and silver needles hidden in her dressing table into the pond; the third wife, Liu Yingying, shouted for a division of the inheritance to return to her family. Xue Zimu witnessed everything. Currently, the prime suspect is the second wife, Pei Yun, as Xue Zimu initially judged that his brother died from poisoning, and the discarded bottle had contained a deadly poison. However, Pei Yun soon died under mysterious circumstances in the temple where the relic was enshrined, in a state identical to Xue Zicheng's. Tests showed that the liquid in the bottle was not the cause of Xue Zicheng’s death, eliminating Pei Yun as a murder suspect. It was revealed that he was killed by venom from a snake-spider, which people from Lingnan are most adept at using. This discovery sent chills down the spines of all servants and family members. According to the first wife's servant, Aunt Ju, there was a maid named Yue Mei, whom the master intended to marry as the fourth wife. She died last summer due to postpartum illness, and she was indeed from Lingnan! Liu Yingying, the third wife, became particularly anxious upon seeing Xue Zimu uncover the cause of death. He discovered her clandestine affair with a tailor named Shen, as they attempted to elope. He devised a plan to thwart their plot, but to his surprise, the non-believer Liu Yingying also died in the temple, the same way, succumbing to snake-spider venom. Despite multiple inspections inside and out, the source of the poison remained elusive. The first wife, Lan Zhi, understood everything and voluntarily offered to worship the relic. To ensure safety, Xue Zimu insisted on checking every item she touched, but Lan Zhi still succumbed to poisoning in front of him. In his grief and anger, Xue Zimu suddenly found clarity among numerous clues; he realized everything: Yue Mei and the first wife gave birth on the same day. The second wife, who had not become pregnant for years, knew Yue Mei's child was the offspring of Steward Song, and thus blackmailed him into killing Yue Mei's child. Coincidentally, the first wife had a stillborn child, and Steward Song took advantage of the situation, convincing Yue Mei that her fetus had aborted. The third wife, in an affair with Shen, harbored hatred after being caught by Yue Mei. Using the superstition around stillborns to convince the credulous Xue Zicheng, they drowned Yue Mei. Steward Song was surprised to find himself executing this command; he spared Yue Mei's life, allowing her to escape the Xue household. The shock nearly drove Yue Mei insane... A year later, Yue Mei's sister, who is Aunt Ju, entered the Xue household as a servant for revenge on her sister's behalf. In truth, the poison had been applied to the incense; every worshipper burned incense in prayer, and once the incense was burnt out, the source of the poison could naturally not be found.
