In 1945, as World War II neared its end, Japan, a key member of the Axis powers, was facing its downfall. That year marked the beginning of the Battle of Okinawa, which would determine the course of the war. Thousands of determined American soldiers were deployed to Okinawa, where they would encounter heavy enemy defenses and the perilous Hacksaw Ridge. Among them was a medic who refused to take up arms. His name was Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), from Virginia, USA. At the outbreak of the Pacific War, the skinny Desmond volunteered to serve as a medic to save lives. However, due to childhood and family reasons, he was unwilling to handle a firearm, even if it meant facing court martial for his refusal to serve. After many twists and turns, Desmond finally arrived at Hacksaw Ridge with his comrades. Amidst the hail of gunfire, countless people fell around him. With faith and conviction, Desmond single-handedly saved dozens of lives on the brink of death… This film is based on a true story.
