Chinese American Huang Kun and African American "Old Black" are both police officers in San Francisco. Huang Kun is skilled in martial arts and has a fierce personality, thus being called the Yellow-faced Tiger. One day, Old Black offends local gangsters and encounters an ambush. Huang Kun, eager to save his friend, kills a gangster, leading to his dismissal by his superior Newman and a one-year prison sentence. After his release, Huang Kun and Old Black keep in touch. One night, Old Black is killed while chasing bank robbers in the backyard of a local Chinese resident, the Zhu family.
