Choi Baek-da (played by Yang Dong-geun) wants to become a disciple of the famous martial arts master Su Ban (played by Jung Do-hong), but unfortunately, Su Ban has already hidden his identity and retreated into the mountains, forcing Choi Baek-da to give up. Choi Baek-da goes to Japan, becomes a young airman, and meets a man named Chun (played by Jung Tae-woo), forming a strong friendship between them. In an accident, Choi Baek-da saves a young girl named Yoko (played by Hirayama Aya) from the US military, and they fall in love. Later, Choi Baek-da accidentally encounters the true identity of Su Ban, who has been hiding in a circus. Choi Baek-da is once again inspired to become his disciple, but is rejected; Su Ban leaves him a copy of "The Book of Five Rings" for self-study. Afterward, through his own effort and intelligence, Choi Baek-da comprehends the text and, upon returning, defeats martial arts masters from Kyoto, Sapporo, and Nara, inciting strong resentment within the Japanese martial arts community.
