For many years, Julie (played by Juliette Binoche) has quietly supported her husband's creative career and taken care of their 5-year-old child, until a car accident shatters their peaceful life. The death of her husband and daughter leaves Julie, who has just awakened from her hospital bed, in deep sorrow. She once contemplated ending her life, but after leaving the hospital, she feels a desire for seclusion. In a decisive act to sever ties with the past, she burns her husband's musical scores. Life on earth has become irrelevant for Julie, who feels utterly hopeless. However, reality unexpectedly intrudes into her life, prompting her to reflect on her attitude toward existence. Meanwhile, a friend of her husband publishes the unfinished manuscript left behind, claiming he will complete the piece. This revelation unexpectedly informs Julie that the music is related to another woman. This woman is pregnant with her husband's child. Julie eventually finds spiritual freedom, gaining the courage to embrace a new life and new love, marking a transformation in her life.
