Best Colombian Film Award at the 2007 Bogotá Film FestivalBest Colombian Film Award at the 2008 Cartagena Film FestivalSecond Place Audience Award at the 2008 Lima Latin American Film FestivalSpecial Jury Award at the 2007 San Sebastián International Film FestivalAdapted from the psychological thriller novel of the same name by Mario Mendoza, "Satanás" is directed by Colombian newcomer Andres Baiz and became a hit film last year. The novel is based on the "Pozzetto Massacre" that occurred in 1986 in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia—a case where a Vietnam War veteran killed 29 mostly unknown strangers before committing suicide (the Wikipedia entry states there were 30 victims, and the killer was shot by the police). The film tells the stories of three groups of different characters: a mother who kills her three children and a priest who wants to be loyal to God; Paula, who is forced into prostitution; and an English teacher who was once a Vietnam veteran with her student Natalia... In a world overshadowed by their inner fears, desires, pain, and external temptations, they struggle to find love, redemption, and a second chance... However, in the end, their selfishness and insecurity lead to their ultimate downfall...
