On the streets of New York in the early morning, a stunningly beautiful woman named Holly (played by Audrey Hepburn) strolls in front of shop windows; she is the socialite of New York's elite. With a worship of money and material things, yet retaining her innocent kindness, Holly is like the "Lady of the Camellias" in New York, earning social income through fees of fifty or one hundred dollars an hour. In her heart, there is also an important goal: to marry a wealthy man. Holly's new neighbor is a writer named Paul (played by George Peppard), who dreams of fame but lives off the support of a rich married woman. Paul falls in love with Holly and tries every possible way to help her return to a normal life, even proposing to her. However, Holly seems unwilling; in her heart, marrying someone like him and giving up her previous efforts seems not worth it. Yet, as Holly stumbles along her quest for happiness, one day she suddenly understands the meaning of happiness.
