In 1930s Hong Kong, with social unrest and a proliferation of gangs, local tycoon Hu Laotou enlists private detective Ai Yao (played by Lam Chi Chung) to investigate his wife, whom he suspects of unusual behavior. After investigation, Ai Yao discovers that the villainous Father Cabang (played by Mak Ka) is involved with Mrs. Hu, aiming to steal Hu Laotou's invaluable stocks. Their plan is thwarted when Ai Yao uncovers the truth, leading to a manhunt against him. At the brink of death, Ai Yao learns that Hu Laotou is actually not a real tycoon but a con artist, arriving in Hong Kong with plans to swindle money from thugs like Cabang. Hu Laotou invites Ai Yao to join him in deceiving Cabang. After consulting with his friend Inspector Robin (played by Teddy Robin), Ai Yao decides to turn the tables.
