In the lead-up to the Anti-Japanese War, there was a group of idle people in Tianjin Wei. They spent their days living off deception and even sought to rise in wealth and status. Su Hongda (played by Guan Xincheng) is one of those idle people, roaming the streets of Tianjin Wei, dreaming of one day becoming a powerful figure like Hou Silu (played by Zhang Jinyuan) who could control the city. There are many like Su Hongda, such as the falconer Yu Qiuniang (played by Yang Miao) and the newspaper agency owner Yan Erxin (played by Li Hongchen), who join Su Hongda with the aim of scamming prominent figures like Hou Silu. Unexpectedly, Su Hongda discovers that it was all a trap set by Hou Silu himself, and they have all become pawns in the scheme to ally with the Japanese. Behind a small scam hides a larger conspiracy; how will Su Hongda and the others choose? The movie "Tianjin Idle People" is adapted from Lin Xi's novel of the same name.
