The story takes place in 1943, when the frequent invasions by the Japanese army shattered the peaceful lives of the Korean people. In an instant, smoke filled the air, and the citizens lost their homes, living a life of misery and displacement. In a small village in Gyeochang County lived a fourteen-year-old girl named Jeong-min (played by Kang Ha-na), who was born into an ordinary but loving family, growing up under the tender care of her parents. The arrival of war ended Jeong-min's carefree life. One day, the Japanese army occupied the village and forcibly took Jeong-min away to board a train bound for Japan, along with other girls of a similar age. Each of them was filled with anxiety, unsure of what fate awaited them. Jeong-min and the other girls became targets for the Japanese army's brutal desires, living a dark and tragic life; however, Jeong-min held a firm hope within her heart—simply to survive and return to her hometown.
