The beautiful seventeen-year-old girl Katerina (played by Vera Alentova) pretends to be the daughter of a professor and encounters a photographer named Lyachikov (played by Yuri Vasilyev) at a banquet, and the two quickly fall in love. However, when Katerina's true identity is revealed, Lyachikov cruelly abandons her, completely disregarding the fact that she is already pregnant with his child. Strong-willed Katerina does not let this defeat her; she decides to give birth to the child and raise it on her own. Sixteen years fly by, and Katerina, through her intelligence and hard work, becomes the factory director. One day, a man named Gosha (played by Aleksey Batalov) makes Katerina feel in love again, but her identity once again becomes an obstacle in this relationship.
