Juan (Alberto Closas) and María (Lucia Bosé) were once very close lovers. Now, Juan has become a university professor, while María is married to a wealthy man. An unexpected reunion rekindles the flames of love between them. During their secret rendezvous, María accidentally hits a cyclist. Fearing that their affair will be exposed, she chooses to escape and remain silent, ultimately leading to the unfortunate death of the injured man. Rafael (Carlos Casaravilla), a friend of María’s wealthy husband, learns everything about Juan and María and proceeds to blackmail her. Meanwhile, Juan is tormented by immense guilt and anguish. Amid a series of conflicts and troubles, Juan decides to turn himself and María in at the police station, but María, enamored with her lavish lifestyle, hesitates.
