Detective Max Payne (played by Mark Wahlberg) works at the New York Police Department. He is tough and excels at his job. He has solved countless major cases and personally put many heinous criminals behind bars. However, his ruthless methods have made him many enemies, leading to the murder of his wife and daughter by foes. In order to investigate the true culprit behind his family's death, Max transfers to a little-visited cold case unit. During the investigation of a nightclub, he encounters stripper Natasha (played by Olga Kurylenko), who is mysteriously murdered shortly after leaving his home. The next day, Max and his old partner Alex (played by Donal Logue) pursue the killer of Natasha, but just as they begin to make progress, Alex is also killed, making Max a major suspect.
