During the Korean War, amidst fierce battles at a certain high ground, Chinese volunteer soldier Wang Cheng (Liu Shilong), just discharged from the hospital, returned to his unit demanding to engage in combat. He presented a letter from his father Wang Fubiao (Zhou Wenbin), encouraging him to achieve glory for the country, to Battalion Commander Zhang (Guo Zhenqing) and Political Commissar Wang Wenqing (Tian Fang). Wang Fubiao was an old comrade of Wang Wenqing, who also knew that Wang Cheng was Wang Fubiao's son. Wang Cheng heroically sacrificed himself in battle, prompting the entire regiment to learn from him. The artistic soldier and Wang Cheng's sister Wang Fang (Liu Shangxian), holding back her grief, engaged in creative work. In his interactions with Wang Fang, Wang Wenqing recognized her as the daughter he reluctantly left behind eighteen years ago, who was later adopted by Wang Fubiao, yet he did not acknowledge her. Instead, he encouraged her to learn from her brother through action, and Wang Fang also demonstrated bravery in subsequent battles.
