A British plane is shot down by German forces while flying over the Sahara Desert. The pilot, injured and unable to remember who he is, is referred to as "The English Patient." Hanna is a nurse at a wartime hospital who decides to stay behind to care for the English patient. They find refuge in an abandoned monastery in Italy, far from the chaos of war, creating a tranquil and leisurely atmosphere. The English patient lies quietly on a wooden bed in the room, and an old book on the windowsill gradually awakens his memories...A love story ignites in the flames of war, transcending morals and altering the course of battle. Archaeologist Count Almásy (Ralph Fiennes) accompanies explorers to study the Sahara Desert, where he meets the pilot Geoffrey and his wife, Katherine (Kristin Scott Thomas), who is mapping the area. Katherine's talent and beauty deeply captivate Almásy, and the two discover their shared interests while visiting cave paintings in the desert. Morality ultimately triumphs over passion. After Katherine and Almásy part ways, Geoffrey discovers his wife's affair. Heartbroken, Geoffrey attempts to crash his plane with Katherine and Almásy aboard. Almásy narrowly escapes, but Katherine is severely injured, and Geoffrey loses his life. Almásy arrives at the side of the woman he loves, places her in a cave, and vows to find help and lead her out of the desert. However, things do not go as easily as hoped. In his efforts to rescue her, he becomes labeled a traitor, which leads to his peril. In the end, though he keeps his promise, Katherine has permanently left him in the cold... Almásy places Katherine's body on a plane, which is then shot down by German forces while flying over the Sahara, resulting in the opening scene of the film.During the days spent caring for the English patient, Hanna meets Kip, an Indian bomb disposal expert, and they develop feelings for each other. Although the war has ended, Kip must still face death countless times.Ultimately, at the English patient's request, Hanna administers a large dose of morphine...
