To facilitate job hunting, mom takes her 7-year-old son, Xiangyu (played by Yu Chenghao), to his grandmother's house in the countryside, intending to leave him there temporarily. His grandmother (played by Jin Yifen) is old and unable to speak or read. Living in the city all his life, Xiangyu struggles to adjust to rural life where there are no game consoles or batteries for sale. He starts to express his dissatisfaction rudely, complaining about everything. To buy batteries, he steals his grandmother's silver hairpin to sell; when his grandmother learns he wants fried chicken but only understands chicken, she boils a chicken for him, which an angry Xiangyu then kicks over. The old woman silently tolerates all of her grandson's behavior. Gradually, Xiangyu comes to understand his grandmother's good intentions and begins to adapt to and enjoy country life.
