This film is adapted from the novel "Highly Classified: President, CIA Director, and Agents" by Stansfield Turner, who served as the Director of the CIA from 1977 to 1981. Osbourne (John Malkovich) is a senior analyst at the CIA who is fired due to alcohol problems. Depressed, Osbourne returns home, where he is ignored by his wife. His wife Katie (Tilda Swinton) is a cold-hearted professional doctor who is having an affair with Harry (George Clooney) from the Treasury, enjoying time together on a boat. Osbourne vows to write an autobiography to reveal the CIA's top secrets but ends up having it mistakenly taken by Katie, who is intent on divorcing him, to document her financial report, which is then accidentally left at the gym. It is found by the dim-witted gym employee Linda (Frances McDormand) and the somewhat slow fitness trainer Chad (Brad Pitt). Linda, who has been worried about the cost of surgery, gets an idea and decides to blackmail them. The fate of this group of people changes because of this disc.
