Mark O'Brien (John Hawkes) contracted polio in his childhood. The aftereffects of the disease not only left him unable to stand but also caused him severe breathing difficulties. Although he has become a successful poet and journalist in his thirties, he has never experienced the pleasures of sex as a man. After repeatedly seeking guidance from a priest friend, he resolutely decides to hire a professional caregiver to help him fulfill this desire. Thus, Cheryl (Helen Hunt) enters Mark's life. However, given Mark's special circumstances, Cheryl initially feels at a loss. Gradually, the two not only transition from a doctor-patient relationship to friends, but Cheryl also gives Mark the courage to pursue happiness and love, helping him take the first step towards seeking love. This film is based on a true story. Helen Hunt, who plays Cheryl, received several film festival nominations, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 85th Oscars.
