The novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Mizuki Tsujimura, which topped Japan's bestseller lists, has been adapted into a film directed by the renowned Hiroshi Kurosawa (known for "Dancing with the Forest"), telling a touching story: A high school girl, Kokoro Anzai, is bullied by her classmates and consequently refuses to go to school. The mirror in her room takes her to a castle where she meets six peers with similar experiences. The film poignantly depicts the pain caused by school bullying, as the confused teenagers navigate their intertwined fates and develop mutual understanding and redemption. After its release in Japan during the Christmas season of 2022, the film performed well at the box office, was selected for the "Focus" section of the 2023 Rotterdam Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Japanese Academy Awards.
