Scott (Paul Mercurio) was born into a family of dancers, and influenced by his parents, the young and handsome Scott developed a strong interest in dance. Creative Scott enjoys incorporating his own fresh dance steps into traditional routines, but it's clear that the rigid judges don't appreciate Scott's innovation. A girl named Fran (Tara Morice) approaches Scott, hoping to partner with him. Scott unexpectedly discovers that he and Fran have an exceptional rhythm together, and through their close collaboration, genuine feelings develop between the two young people. Scott's mother, Shirley (Pat Thomson), is not pleased with the plain-looking Fran. She seeks out the beautiful and flamboyant Tina (Sonia Kruger), hoping to make her Scott's new dance partner. Scott, of course, refuses, but in pursuit of her goal, Shirley resorts to lies to force Scott's compliance. In his pain, Scott gives up on Fran.
