His gaze lands on Emma (played by Anne Hathaway), a smart girl from a working-class family. However, after a brief exchange, nothing happens between them, yet they are destined to change each other's lives. In the years that follow, they meet and part as close friends, sharing the bittersweet experiences and insights of life. Dexter experiences the ups and downs of career and marriage, while Emma endures the hardships of life at the bottom. They are soulmates, connected despite the distance, their deepest and truest love locked away in their hearts… This film is adapted from the bestselling novel of the same name by British author David Nicholls.
