The piano teacher Riku (played by Hiroko Fukatsu) who lives alone once had a happy and carefree life, but everything changed after her husband Yusuke Yabunai (played by Tadanobu Asano) went missing three years ago. One evening, as Riku was getting ready to cook, she suddenly sees Yusuke walking in from outside. What he says next surprises her even more; it turns out that her husband, who was a dentist three years ago, was diagnosed with a terminal illness and quietly left home to find a peaceful place to die. Some obsession has brought him back to the world in a living form, and after three years of wandering, he has returned home. At Yusuke's suggestion, a skeptical Riku embarks on a journey to retrace their steps over the past three years. Along the way, they encounter those who once cared for Yusuke, and the couple's hidden secrets begin to emerge, allowing them to finally face each other openly... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name serialized by Kaori Tamaki in "Bungeishunju" in 2009.
