This film, written by Ernest Thompson, depicts a retired professor and his old companion vacationing in their holiday home by a lake in New England, where they face various crises of aging amidst peaceful days. His daughter has just gotten divorced and is in a state of wandering. The often strained relationship between the father and daughter finally resolves as their thirteen-year-old grandson spends time living with them... The film won three Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress, making Katharine Hepburn the only four-time Oscar-winning actress in film history, and Henry Fonda received the long-awaited Oscar while on his deathbed.
