Retired veteran Lao Mo (Sun Yue) uses the method of his old friend Chang Ruosong to find a wife, buying a beautiful young girl from the High Mountain tribe, Yu Mei (Zhang Chunfang), with his life's savings. On the surface, Yu Mei doesn’t seem to have any feelings for Lao Mo, but she actually plans to live a good life with him. Seeing the miserable situation of Chang Ruosong after marriage, and with the hardworking gas worker Jin Shu (Chen Huilou) often helping Yu Mei, they appear to be a perfect match in the eyes of outsiders. Lao Mo begins to doubt the family life he bought with money, and remembering his wasted youthful years, his kindness leads him to not wanting to hold Yu Mei back any longer. He intends to support her and Jin Shu by leaving a sum of money and running away from home, unaware that to Yu Mei, he is her lifelong support.
