In a small town in Northeast China, Wang Kangmei (played by Fan Wei), who has been a train mechanic for most of his life, proudly retires. Wang himself suffers from bronchial disease, his wife is hospitalized due to illness, his son Dajun is not engaged in any productive activities, and his daughter Xiaoping is facing marital issues with her husband Chunyang.
