Old Left (played by Anthony Wong) is a thoroughgoing leftist from the old generation in Hong Kong. He hums the songs "Ode to the Motherland" and "Capture the Tiger Mountain by Strategy," proudly waving the great banner of serving the people. His biggest wish in life is to see Tiananmen in Beijing. Old Left wholeheartedly serves the people, entirely neglecting his own family, which causes dissatisfaction in his son, Left Zhong (played by Ronald Cheng). Left Zhong has a childhood sweetheart, Lu Min (played by Karen Mok), who went abroad to study after graduating high school. Left Zhong doesn't want to carry the "Left" burden for life like Old Left, so he seizes the opportunity of the mainland's reform and opening up to embark on a risky gold-seeking adventure in the mainland. Left Zhong and Lu Min return to Hong Kong covered in scars after the 1997 handover. How will Old Left's life ultimately come to an end?
