This film can be seen as a sequel to Wim Wenders' "The State of Things." In the previous installment, director Friedrich (played by Patrick Bauchau) goes to Lisbon to shoot material. He invites sound technician Philippe (played by Rüdiger Vogler) to help gather sounds for his silent film. After receiving the invitation postcard, Philippe makes his way to Lisbon but cannot find Friedrich, only discovering some mysterious clues left behind. Based on a film segment the director left about a small town in Lisbon, Philippe goes there to collect sounds. He wanders through streets and alleys, recording various sounds. During his time in Lisbon, he meets a singer who performs songs for films, adding some romance to his life. In the end, he finds Friedrich and learns the reason for the director's departure: faced with the impact of commercial images, the director has become numb to imagery and is unable to find inspiration and passion to shoot. He invents a method of blind shooting, setting the camera on his shoulder and moving freely, allowing the lens to capture the images encountered. He believes this method faithfully records a place, making it objective and real.
