Jonathan is a famous wealthy man in New York. Feeling that his life is coming to an end due to a serious illness, he decides to meet his son John (Charles Laughton) and his fiancée Gloria. Unfortunately, Gloria cannot attend the meeting on time due to an accident. To fulfill his father's wish, John recruits Annie (Deanna Durbin), who works in a wardrobe, and asks her to impersonate his fiancée.
